Innovative engineer.  Photonics expert.  Insightful problem solver.

photo by Jing TianAs President of Peppertree Engineering, Mark Arbore ensures that Peppertree delivers superior, practical solutions to customers’ technology problems.

Accomplished in the commercialization of technology, Mark specializes in technology development and product engineering, particularly in the field of optical system architectures including both LED and laser-based designs.  He has a special talent for listening to customers’ technical challenges and needs —often unclear to the customers themselves — and developing concrete, real-world solutions to meet those needs.

An insightful problem solver, Mark brings unusual breadth— electrical and mechanical — as well as holistic thinking to business-critical problems. Known for his ability to develop “simple, brilliant and complete” solutions, Mark is especially adept at identifying uniquely effective designs that are technically feasible to manufacture, easy to use, and that balance the pursuit of technical perfection with get-to-market needs and schedules.

In addition to his technical and problem solving expertise, Mark is adept in the interpersonal and communications skills that make cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams effective.  His calm, logical, systematic approach combined with an ability to listen well and interact subtly puts people at ease and instills confidence.

Mark is a respected expert and recognized leader in the subjects of nonlinear optics, solid state lasers including fiber lasers, optical waveguides, and optical measurement techniques. The holder of 22 issued U.S. patents, numerous international patents, several additional U.S. patents pending and more than 50 publications, he is known for intellectual property creation and is affectionately called “the patent machine.”

Mark earned Ph.D. and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, where his thesis advisor was the noted professor Martin Fejer, and a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Rice University. His work history prior to Peppertree includes tenure with Lightwave Electronics Corporation (acquired by JDSU) and start-up Collinear Corporation.
